The dolphin watching season runs from November to April when the ocean is calm. During this time, it is very common to see massive pods of Spinner Dolphins just a short boat ride from the shore.

Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) is about 140 kilometers away. A direct private taxi from the airport to Kalpitiya takes approximately 3 to 3.5 hours.
