Minneriya National Park
Famous for the spectacular "Elephant Gathering", Minneriya is the ultimate destination during the dry season. As water resources deplete elsewhere, herds of up to 300 elephants congregate around the Minneriya tank to feed on the fresh grass.
Best Time: May to September (Dry Season)
Kaudulla National Park
When the monsoon rains begin to fill the Minneriya tank, the elephant herds migrate through the jungle corridor to Kaudulla. It offers a slightly less crowded alternative with breathtaking sunset views over the reservoir.
Best Time: October to November
Hurulu Eco Park
During the heavy rains when Minneriya and Kaudulla are heavily flooded, the elephants seek refuge in the taller forests of Hurulu Eco Park. This biosphere reserve guarantees elephant sightings even during the wettest months.
