Understanding The Wind Seasons

Summer Season (May to October)

  • The main kitesurfing season in Sri Lanka with very reliable wind.
  • Wind speed averages between 18 to 25 knots.
  • Wind direction is South-West, blowing consistently day and night.
  • Perfect for both lagoon flat water riding and ocean wave riding.
  • Water is warm, so no wetsuits are required (rash guard recommended).

Winter Season (December to March)

  • The secondary season with smooth, thermal winds.
  • Wind speed averages between 14 to 20 knots.
  • Wind typically builds up in the afternoon (North-East direction).
  • Clear blue skies and perfect tropical weather.
  • Ideal conditions for beginners learning kite control in calm waters.
